Fostering your hopes...helping you create positive change

Looking for a down-to-earth counselor to help you or a family member cope with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic issues, other mental illness, a health crisis, or life transition? I bring over sixteen years of mental health treatment experience to my counseling practice in Albany, Oregon. My approach fosters hope, empowerment, and positive, lasting change. A native Oregonian and mid-valley resident since 1983, I value the opportunity to serve residents of the Linn-Benton County community. Learn more about what I can do for you below.

About My Training and Background…

I am a clinical social worker, licensed to practice by the Oregon State Board of Clinical Social Workers. Oregon licensed clinical social workers have completed a master’s degree in social work from an accredited university and have additionally completed two years of carefully supervised post-graduate clinical practice. They have also successfully passed both a comprehensive national examination and a state-specific examination on social work theory, interventions, practice, and related law.  My license assures you that I have completed all necessary education and training and have agreed to uphold a professional ethical code in my service to you.
My employment background includes more than a decade of clinical service in public mental health, working with a broad variety of mental health issues facing individuals and families. I have also served as a medical social worker in both hospital and outpatient home health/hospice settings and have worked extensively with chronically ill and grieving persons..

My graduate training in social work enables me to take a broad-based approach to helping people with their problems. Social workers are trained to work with people from a biopsychosocial systems perspective. This means I will consider many different aspects of you and your life situation in order to provide help and hope to you.

What Services Are Available?

I offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy sessions for adolescents and adults. Our work together will begin with a careful assessment of your problems as well as your own strengths and ideas for improvement. Together, we will develop a treatment plan designed to move you forward toward your goals. We will then meet regularly to evaluate and discuss your progress and any roadblocks you have encountered. This way, we can be certain you are on track and moving toward your goals. If things aren’t working for you, we will modify what we’re doing to give you the best opportunity for success.

Appointments are available during the weekdays and on some weekday evenings. On occasion, appointments may be available on weekends.  To schedule an appointment or to speak personally with me about my services, please call the office in Albany at (541) 926-7322.  In many cases, I am able to bill your  health insurance for your therapy.  For your convenience, I accept major credit cards and offer a cash discount  for self-pay clients.

What is a Counseling Session Like?

Individual, couple, and family counseling sessions are typically one hour in duration. You will meet privately with me in a casual and comfortable office space, similar to a living room. We will discuss your issues for the first fifty minutes, and reserve the last ten minutes for rescheduling and documentation of your session. Your discussions with me are strictly confidential, although there are certain circumstances in which I am legally required to disclose confidential information. Such circumstances are typically rare, and you will be fully advised of these sorts of circumstances before we begin your first session.

Therapy groups meet for ninety minutes once each week. In a group session, you will meet together with me and a group of other persons with similar issues and goals. Group size may vary, but will never be more than eight clients. Each group member is typically pre-screened in an individual meeting to determine appropriateness for group and to provide orientation to the group rules and format.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all...
